Reiki is a healing modality that originated in Japan in the early 1920s. It is part of the Alternative or Complimentary Medicine health systems, depending on where it falls in the client's treatment plan. Reiki can be engaged to promote emotional and physical healing. At this stage Private Health Rebates are not available for Reiki treatments outside of Queensland and Western Australia though we hope that this won't always be the case.

During the treatment, the practitioner will place their hands on you in particular positions while you lie down on the table fully clothed. The hand positions are designed to optimally heal the body and treat the Energy Centres, called chakras, located along your midline.

Ideally, we want all of our chakras spinning in unison in a clockwise direction. Sometimes, our chakras can become dysfunctional or blocked. This is relatively normal and most often dysfunctional chakras will correct themselves in time, or will result in a block. The location of the chakra, and how long it hasn't been working optimally, will often correlate with an insidious onset of a physical illness. Some examples include: sciatica, anxiety, depression, asthma, arthritis, stomach ulcers, and insomnia.

As with massage, reiki can be used regularly to assist the body's natural healing processes or every once in a while like getting your car serviced. It is difficult to describe to new clients what to expect from their first treatment as everybody experiences reiki differently. Some can feel cold, while others very hot in places. Some see colours flashing behind their closed eyes. Some people can feel very light as if they're floating, but feel heavy like cement the next time. Whatever experience you may have your therapist will be there to discuss this, should you wish, and share their treatment with you.
